That's one of the things I love about Altec as well, not only the great sound experience I get every time I turn on my stereo but knowing that most of my drivers are only a little removed from the antique drivers that WE developed at the dawn of hifi reproduction. The fact that there basic designs work so well today speaks volumes about the work that they did to develop them.
I don't think that any of those early engineers really thought that 80 years later there would be the kind of following that transpired with all the so called "achievements" in driver design.
All of this engineering and complex math with just a slide rule! My Dad was an engineer, designed the first continuous casting mills for steel in the US. I remember when I got my first calculator, he could beat me in most calculations using one of those slide rules. LOL
